Thirsty Thursday (on a Friday!)

Oops! Forgot to post a drink recipe yesterday!

I actually tried a new green smoothie, too, but it was borderline salad and super thick. So much so that I actually couldn’t stomach the entire thing! I enjoy green smoothies, but there’s no way I’ll ever drink (or chew, actually) that particular smoothie again.

Instead, let’s go with a nice, refreshing detox drink.

Lemonade Detox Drink

What You’ll Need:
-2 lemons, juiced
-2 tbsp grated ginger
-small cucumber, sliced

Make it!
1. Add all ingredients to blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
2. Pour into a glass and top with water, or blend with ice for a smoothie.

Refreshing! This is on my to-do list for today!

Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, drink up!

Have I mentioned that I love smoothies? It’s the perfect little meal in my opinion. You’ve got so many options for creating just about any flavor you want, you can tailor it to your specific needs (like post- workout, energy-boosting, meal-replacing, sweet tooth-satisfying, etc.), and they are packed full of nutrition that is easily absorbed by your body. Who wouldn’t want a smoothie?

This recipe is a protein-packed banana smoothie. There are a ton of variations and additions for it, too, so be sure to look here for some inspiration and ideas to tweak this to just your liking!

The potential for this smoothie is endless. Add a scoop of chocolate protein powder, use Greek yogurt, hide some spinach in it…

Thirsty Thursday

Anyone drink green tea? It’s supposed to be great for your metabolism. I tried it once, hot, with some sweetener. HATED IT! Yuck, it was terrible! I haven’t tried it since, but I’ve found a recipe to try that might just change my mind. It’s Dr Oz’s Green Tea recipe.

20121220-043543.jpg

Dr Oz Green Tea:
Makes 1 pitcher

Ingredients:
– 8 cups brewed green tea
– 1 tangerine, sliced
– handful of mint leaves

Instructions:
1. Mix all ingredients in a tall pitcher. Store in fridge overnight to drink the following day.

I wonder if the tangerine and mint can overpower the awful green tea taste? Or maybe iced green tea is the way to go? I’m definitely giving this tea a try today, what’s the worst that could happen?

Anyone else have any green tea recipes?

Thirsty Thursday

Smoothie, anyone?

I love smoothies. They’re yummy. I made this one up all by myself. If it’s been done already, I haven’t seen it. But let me tell you, it’s a super delicious combination of yummy ingredients packed with nutrition!

I call it the Secretly-Green Blueberry Cream Smoothie.

Secretly-Green Blueberry Cream Smoothie
Makes one serving, 200 calories

What You’ll Need:
– 1 cup frozen blueberries
– 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze milk
– 1/2 cup Light & Fit vanilla yogurt
– 2 handfuls spinach
– 1 tsp honey

Make it!:
1. Put milk, yogurt, honey, spinach and blueberries in blender (in this order, it helps smooth everything up) and blend until smooth!

I love the dark purple color of this smoothie. All too often, green smoothies look, well, green. And that’s all well and good, they’re delicious. But if you’re not ready to try a super glowing-green smoothie just yet, start with this one. The berries hide the color perfectly.

This smoothie is a little on the sweet side. Perfect for those days you want a sweet treat but don’t want to undo all your hard work!

Enjoy!

-12 small spearmint leaves

I haven’t tried this water yet, but it’s on my to-do list for today. It sounds so crisp and refreshing.

I’ve got a yummy smoothie recipe for you this Thirsty Thursday. So yummy, in fact, that I’m sipping on a glass as we speak! Get your blenders ready, people!

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie
