Moderation is Key

Who says you have to be perfect while losing weight?

I think it’s perfectly fine to treat yourself to chocolate or pizza, just so long as you keep it in check. If you think that you won’t have cravings for unhealthy food or that to ban certain foods from your diet is a good idea while trying to lose weight and get in shape, you’ve got another thing coming! Moderation is an essential part of making a healthy lifestyle change rather than simply “going on a diet”. Diets don’t work, mainly because they force you to reduce your calories drastically and cut out certain foods. Sure, you’ll lose weight initially, but after a few weeks or days of restricting yourself, you’ll either go crazy and binge on something and give the diet up altogether or will regain all the weight you lost when you decide to eat normally again. Main idea? DON’T DIET! Establish healthy eating habits that you can incorporate into a new, healthful lifestyle. And that means having a treat every now and then.

Ok, I’ll admit it: I’m addicted to Pinterest. I spend hours pinning stuff. But it’s not all in vain. I come across great recipes all the time, and I haven’t been let down yet. Here’s a recipe I found just the other day for Chocolate Pretzel Bites. Super easy and quick and satisfies a salty/sweet craving for only 35 calories a bite.

Ingredients:
-bag of pretzels
-bag of Hershey’s kisses
-bag of M&M’s

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 275 F.
2. Count out how many kisses you’ve got (my bag had 74). Count out the same number of pretzels and place them on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Add one kiss on top of each pretzel.

3. Stick it in the oven for 3 minutes to soften the kisses. While this is baking, count out your M&M’s (1 per pretzel).
4. Top each kiss with an M&M. Press it down so the chocolate spreads out over the pretzel.

5. Stick them in the fridge until hardened. Keep cool.

Yummy, right?
